Promising Practices in Education Award
Promising Practices in Education Award
Blackstone Valley Consortium
Every year outstanding teachers in each of the 12 towns that make up the Blackstone Valley Superintendent’s Collaborative are nominated by administration to receive the Promising Practices in Education Award. This award was established to celebrate, promote, and share creative and innovative teaching practices that inspire students to stretch and grow academically, and inspire other teachers to stretch and grow professionally.
Whitin teachers Jillian Burr, Brian Dubuc and Linda Simonds were honored at a recognition breakfast held at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School on October 18, 2019. These three educators were selected in recognition of their efforts to promote literacy through an after school book club experience. Over the course of the 2018-2019 school year, these educators guided over 40 fifth grade students in reading four different books and participating in discussions and activities related to the books. Ms. Burr, Mr. Dubuc, and Ms. Simonds presented their reading program to other honorees and administrators from the participating school districts and shared that as a result of their efforts, they have seen a dramatic change in students’ attitudes toward reading and are looking forward to expanding the club this year.
